The Werlabs founder invests in mental illness

2018/06/07

Add Health Media invests in the psychologist app Mindler, which helps patients with mental illness via video meetings with psychologists. Co-founder is the doctor and serial entrepreneur Rickard Lagerqvist who is now starting his third company. The founding team also includes psychologist and researcher Rickard Färdig, who is also the company’s CEO, and psychologist Johannes Hatem, who contributes innovative power and clinical experience as a psychologist with his own clinic.

Doctor and entrepreneur Rickard Lagerqvist is moving on from the co-tech company Werlabs to developing an app for patients with mental illness. With the help of the new Mindler service, the psychologist visit is booked and carried out directly in an app on the phone. The focus is on the worrying increase in mental illness in society – everything from stress, phobias and difficulty sleeping to relationship problems and low self-esteem. Mindler can provide more right help and faster.

– I am basically a doctor and have seen major shortcomings in care for patients suffering from mental illness. One million visits a month in primary care concern this type of diagnosis, yet only 3-4 percent are allowed to see a psychologist. It is not reasonable and it is not right, says Rickard Lagerqvist.

Mindler goes through the county council, which means that patient fees and high-cost protection apply, in a similar way as other established apps for physical health. Rickard Lagerqvist hopes that this will lead to shorter care queues. The app was launched in May with about 20 psychologists connected to the service and already now about 50 patients have started. The team also includes psychologist and researcher Rickard Färdig, who is also the company’s CEO, and psychologist Johannes Hatem. Mindler recently raised SEK 4 million in start-up capital from, among others, Add Health Media, which invests in health companies.
