As one of Sweden’s largest platforms for information and continuing education for doctors and other healthcare professionals, PraktiskMedicin.se has developed a new education, this time focusing on diabetes surgery as treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Every month, PraktiskMedicin.se is visited by 370,000 unique visitors, the majority of whom are healthcare staff. Many doctors use the PM Academy training platform, where more than 15,000 training courses have been completed in the past two years.
Today, surgery is included as part of the treatment options for obesity, but few are aware of its effects as a form of treatment for type 2 diabetes. To increase the knowledge of treating care staff, PM Academy, in collaboration with Professor Torsten Olbers, surgeon at Linköping University Hospital, has developed a training in diabetes surgery.
– Diabetes surgery is one of the treatment options for patients with type 2 diabetes that you as a doctor should know and should inform patients about. This training highlights basic knowledge about diabetes surgery in connection with a patient case, says Torsten Olbers.
The education is structured with patient cases and consists of 6 questions and answers that inspire and motivate learning in an interactive way. It is deliberately created to only take about 10 minutes to complete, with the possibility of further in-depth study for those who wish.
– The interest in education is great, something we have seen in questionnaires that the doctors have filled in after completed educations. As many as 85-95 percent believe that the educations have helped them in their clinical everyday life and over 90 percent would like to do more educations and recommend them to their colleagues. We are very proud to be able to offer this type of training, which is of high quality while taking some time to complete. It provides a more trained care staff, which in turn increases patient safety in care, says Johan Bloom, editor of PraktiskMedicin.se
In 2020, PraktiskMedicin.se launched its training platform in the rest of the Nordic region, and even there they see a great deal of interest and need for further training for healthcare staff. More Nordic educations are to be expected
