Praktisk Medicin launches knowledge test in pneumonia

2018/09/18

Too many people in the world die of pneumonia. In Europe, pneumonia is the leading cause of death caused by infections and every five hours someone in Sweden dies from pneumonia. To increase knowledge about the disease, there is now a new education on PraktiskMedicin.se, in the field of pneumonia.

To raise awareness and the level of knowledge in primary care, Add Health Media AB produces knowledge tests in various areas, at PraktiskMedicin.se. The latest training is primarily about socially acquired pneumonia and its complications as well as possible preventive measures. The training consists of 8 short questions, some of which include patient cases. Erik Backhaus, chief physician at the Infection Clinic in Skövde, has participated in the development and fact-checked the training.

About 1 in 100 people get pneumonia each year. The incidence is highest for older people, but also quite high for young children. Pneumococci are the most common cause of pneumonia and the most important cause of serious illness and death. Pneumococci are well placed to cause respiratory infection in connection with ongoing viral infection that has damaged the mucous membranes and led to mucus formation, e.g. in case of a cold or flu.

The training is produced by Praktisk Medicin, which is owned by Add Health Media AB and has received financial support from Pfizer AB. See all educations at www.academy.praktiskmedicin.se
