New training course on nausea during pregnancy from Praktisk Medicin

2023/03/22

PraktiskMedicin.se is one of Sweden’s largest platforms with treatment overviews and continuing education for doctors and other healthcare professionals. A new course is now being launched that aims to increase the knowledge of prescribing healthcare professionals about nausea during pregnancy.

Every month, PraktiskMedicin.se is visited by 300,000 unique visitors, the majority of whom are healthcare professionals. The website has a training section that is used by many doctors – over 15 000 training sessions have been conducted in recent years.

Many pregnant women suffer from nausea and vomiting and it is important that they can get the right help from primary care. The course at Praktisk Medicin was developed by Rebecka Kaplan Sturk, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, and aims to increase the knowledge of prescribing healthcare professionals in this area.

– Nausea and vomiting are so common during pregnancy that they are sometimes considered ‘normal’. But it is a condition that impairs a pregnant woman’s physical and mental health and her ability to work, study and social life. The more severe forms can also lead to serious risks for both the pregnant woman and the fetus, both in the short and long term. “With early and effective treatment, and with recommended follow-up, we can help pregnant women with nausea and vomiting and contribute to good reproductive health and a healthy baby,” says Rebecka Kaplan Sturk.

The training consists of 6 questions and answers that inspire and motivate learning in an interactive way. It is deliberately designed to take only about 10-15 minutes to complete while maintaining high quality.

– After the training, doctors are asked to answer a few questions. The answers show that there is great interest in testing and adding to the knowledge bank. As many as 80 percent consider that the training courses can be useful in their everyday clinical practice and 90 percent think that they have increased their knowledge of the disease. “It’s great to see and motivates us to continue to develop new courses in more areas,” says Sofia Åkerlund, physician and editor-in-chief of Praktisk Medicin.

The other Nordic countries also see a great interest and need for further training for healthcare professionals. More Nordic training courses are to be expected.
