Together with the founders, Add Health Media, Bonit Capital and the serial entrepreneur Fabian Fischer are now contributing SEK 10 million in expansion capital to the Swedish medtech company ScientificMed. The purpose is to increase the company’s pace of development and internationalization in the digitization of cancer treatments.
In recent years, new revolutionary drug treatments for cancer, such as immunotherapy, have been launched that can cure patients where previously there were only treatments that could only slow down the course of the disease. In order to optimize treatment with these new and other cancer drugs, it is important to continuously monitor the effect, symptoms and side effects and to support patients.
Together with healthcare providers, patients, pharmaceutical companies and research institutes such as Karolinska Institutet, ScientificMed has developed an e-health platform with adapted so-called e-treatments for specific drugs and treatments. The platform is used by healthcare professionals and patients to improve treatment outcomes.
“It is very gratifying that we have gained investors who have in-depth experience of our market and who can help us develop the company. We have been profitable since the start and demonstrated the added value with our product concept through several clinical studies and pilot projects. With this capital, we can now make a faster investment going forward, especially internationally, ”says Jan Fjellström, CEO and co-founder of ScientificMed.
Healthcare and pharmaceutical companies in the field of cancer face major challenges but also good opportunities in the future.
Digitization will be required to improve the treatment results of expensive drugs with potentially severe side effects, to meet healthcare’s need for cost efficiency but also to meet the increased demands from the pharmaceutical companies on follow-up data on new drugs. We think ScientificMed is an extra interesting company as they have a functioning scalable business model and established customer relationships with several of the major international pharmaceutical companies “, says Jonas Ahlen, Managing Partner at Bonit Capital who is the lead investor in the capital round.
For Add Health Media, the investment is part of the increasingly expansive business area investments and innovation towards medtech and digitalized care.
“We are constantly looking for new, innovative and at the same time progressive companies and ScientificMed fits into our growing portfolio of e-health companies. With this joint investment, we see that the company can expand its operations and thus contribute to even better cancer care “, says Johan Bloom, business development manager at Add Health Media.
